Preparing for the Autumn COVID Vaccine
It's that time again when we all scramble to see if the government has decided to give access to the COVID vaccine this year. It's nonsensical and purposefully confusing which was the catalyst of the creation fo the Vaccine Fund UK.
Here is a quick breakdown of who is eligible this year:
- adults aged 75 years and over
- residents in care homes for older adults
- individuals who are immunosuppressed aged 6 months and over
Last year this included adults aged 65 to 74 and all those aged 6 months and over in a clinical risk group.
The eligibility is the same across the 4 nations of the UK (England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland). We are waiting for Ireland to update their vaccine guidance and we will publish our guidance soon.
The Green Book outlines the eligibility criteria of the COVID-19 in the UK written by the UKHSA. The government website claim this book should be used as a reference as “people online often see as people might see “themselves (and be considered by others) as immunosuppressed” but they might not fit the criteria for the COVID booster.
However, when trawling through the inaccessible Green Book, it lacks data, has many broken links and overall is anti-science. Unfortunately, the government’s focus for this year’s vaccine drive is “saving money” not “saving lives”.
Plus, vaccinations should be made available to everyone, regardless of their diagnosed health status.
We still have £615 ready to distribute to those who are looking to get vaccinated privately.
We have also published a list of locations that our supporters have said offer private vaccines.
If you have any more suggestions on locations, please comment below here.
